I spent my first 21 years of life living in a tiny spot known as Granville Centre, just outside Annapolis Royal. As a child I spent many years with a close family friend in and around the Annapolis Royal Fire Department getting to go in parades and helping with the occasional bingo night canteen.
Being around this type of environment helped me realize just how rewarding being a volunteer firefighter could be. In my 3 years of being a member of the Truro Volunteer Fire Brigade I have completed most of my courses for the Level 1 Firefighter, Medical First Responder, Hazardous Materials Awareness and am always working towards obtaining other courses to further my knowledge.
I am currently in college for Primary Care Paramedicine. When I manage to get some spare time I enjoy being with my family, friends, walking my dog or working out.
Since joining the brigade I truly have gained an entire second family. On scene and off scene we always have each backs.
My advice for anyone interested in joining a fire service is to just do it. Even if it scares you, do it. The amount of knowledge, friends, life experience and memories I have gained since joining has been astronomical.
