Joined Date: September 2013 Position: Brigade Secretary & Firefighter Engineer

I am originally from Parrsboro, Nova Scotia where I was raised in one of the most beautiful small towns on the Minas Basin. After graduating High School, I moved to the Annapolis Valley to attend post-secondary school in Electronics Engineering, and Computer Services which I completed in Halifax.

While living in Halifax I met my future wife Leona where we settled down in Eastern Passage to start our family, raising our twin boys Xander and Zach. After a few years in the big city of HRM, we decided to move and chose Truro as our new home which was made easy as we already had family living there and it had a good fit for where we wanted to continue to raise our children.

My “day job” is currently as an account manager for a IT firm out of Markham, Ontario. For a few years of commuting back and forth from Truro to Dartmouth I chose to find a way to be more involved in the community and since my father was a volunteer firefighter in Parrsboro when I was growing up; I saw an opportunity to apply as a volunteer firefighter here in Truro where I could follow in his footsteps.

From when I joined the Fire Brigade in 2013 I have been given the opportunities to better myself and be more proficient in everything the fire service has to offer. With the training that was offered I was able to achieve the Pro Board Firefighter Level 1 & 2 Certifications, Hazardous Materials Awareness & Operations Level Certification, and specialty certifications in Vehicle Extrication, Ice Water Rescue, Rapid Intervention Techniques (RIT), and Medical First Responder (MFR). As a Firefighter Engineer I also have additional certifications & training in Pump Operations, Emergency Vehicle Driver Training, and hold a Class 3 license with Air Brake endorsement. I also serve on several committees such as OH&S, Ways & Means, and Equipment.
