1. VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER

Volunteer first responders help their fellow citizens in times of need. Volunteers enjoy a sense of accomplishment, achievement, and pride in the work they do. You would learn new skills with free trainings, attend events for the firefighting community, make new friends, be a part of a team, give back to the community, make a real difference, and get great opportunity for career growth.

YOUR JOURNEY TO BECOMING A VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER

Step 1. Apply Online - Fill out the online application form with your details.

Step 2. Interview - Wait for an interview call. We’ll explain the training, time commitment, and responsibilities of being a volunteer firefighter.

Step 3. Physical Test - Complete a short drill to assess your basic physical fitness and ability to perform firefighter tasks.

Step 4. Complete the Application - Fill out the required firefighter membership and application forms after successfully passing the physical fitness test. .

Step 5. Join the Team - Welcome to the team! All required firefighter gear, equipment, and training will be provided.

ELIGIBILITY FOR MEMBERSHIP

APPLICANTS MUST:

be nineteen (19) years of age at the date of application.
be a permanent resident of Canada.
be eligible to be covered under the Nova Scotia Workers Compensation Act.
have a valid Nova Scotia Driver's License and provide a driver's abstract demonstrating a safe driving record.
Provide a medical form completed by a physician and a criminal record check. (The required forms and instructions will be provided after the interview).
be willing to follow and abide by the Bylaws of the Truro Volunteer Fire Brigade.
be community-minded and willing to volunteer their tiem and service without remuneration.

2. ASSOCIATE MEMBER - Currently not accepting

Do you have a specialized skill or hobby you can contribute? The Truro Volunteer Fire Brigade will accept applications from individuals wishing to join the Brigade but do not want to become qualified to be a firefighter. Associate Members provide non-operational support for the Brigade. From computer/IT support, public relations, photography, maintenance, community education and administrative functions – there is plenty to do behind the scenes. Anyone who does not have the desire to participate directly in emergency services, or those who cannot meet the physical demands, are encouraged to serve our Brigade in this capacity. Associate members do not participate in any emergency responses nor are they required to attend the required training under our operations divisions.
