SPORTS

Aside from the countless hours spent training and answering calls, the members of the Brigade also participate in a variety of sporting events such as softball, darts, curling, and washer toss.

We are an active department in the Maritime Firefighters Association (MFFA) which oversees the organization of several sporting events throughout the Maritime provinces each year.

The brigade also participates annually in the Nova Scotia Curling Championship. The winning team of this event goes on to represent Nova Scotia at the Canadian Firefighter Curling Championships. Members of the Truro Fire Brigade have gone on to the National Championship 15 times since 1959. The first time Truro won; they represented all three maritime provinces. The other 14 times, they represented the province of Nova Scotia.

The members of the Truro Fire Brigade hosted the 1988 National Championships in Truro for the first time and have also played key roles when the National Championships were hosted in Truro three other times. (2000, 2012 and 2016).

Each year, the Brigade hosts a dart tournament in memory of the late John (Jesse) Janes, a past Deputy Chief of the department. This popular event started in 1993 and brings together some of the best dart players in the region.
