WALK IN OUR BOOTS

In small communities and small towns throughout Nova Scotia, the recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters is key to maintaining effective fire protection for the citizens. In towns such as Truro, highly skilled and dedicated volunteers serve the citizens of the town 24-7, 365 days a year.

The Truro Volunteer Fire Brigade recognizes the need to continually recruit new volunteers and the necessity to retain those who currently serve. In response to this ongoing need, the Walk In Our Boots Recruitment program was developed in 2007.

The recruitment program includes an active social media platform, traditional print media initiatives and community involvement, all which assist us in recruiting the best of the best to serve with us. We also participate annually in the Colchester County Home Show to showcase our services, provide fire safety information and offer recruitment opportunities to those interested in joining.

The feature event of this program is the Walk In Our Boots Open House, held each September.  This event has taken on many forms in the past and continues to evolve each year, drawing large crowds from near and far.  Demonstrations, fire safety information and competitions are staples of the event and each year organizers find new, unique and special features to add which keep the show exciting.

We encourage you to browse the photographs from past Walk In Our Boots events and visit the recruitment link if you are interested joining the Truro Volunteer Fire Brigade.
